Brief von Seymour J.G. Egerton an Fanny Rheinberger:
24.5.1876
Dear Madame Rheinberger.
Probably you have heard that the performance of your husband's Symphony [1] is postponed, on account of the Band parts arriving too late. I confess I am not sorry; for, as I told your husband, though the Orchestra of the New Philharmonic Society is composed of the best materials, the Conductor is not. And I think the Symphony will appear in England to much greater advantage when played by the Orchestra of the Chrystal Palace under August Manns [2] who is frustrate (first rate?).
So I hope Dr. Wylde [3] will not attempt it this season. I should have been, as I hoped, back in Munich by this time. But I have been very far from well, and for the last fortnight quite laid up. However, I hope to get to my old quarters in the Karls's Strasse in about 3 weeks; where I shall proceed to study the German language and try to make myself a little more at home in both speaking and writing before the winter, where I am looking forward to hard studies under Professor Rheinberger. I have also to write some quite light music for a kind or operetta which some friends of mine want to do in September. After that, no more composition till studies are finished!
